Tata Motors Q1 profit falls 57%, JLR revenue beats expectations
Tata Motors on Friday said consolidated profit for April-June quarter was at Rs 2,236 crore, down 57.2 percent compared to year-ago period. It was impacted by weak operational performance and forex fluctuation but lower tax cost, profit share of JVs and insurance for Tianjin accident limited the fall. The stock gained 2 percent on account of better-than-expected consolidated revenue growth & standalone operational performance, and improvement in JLR business.
The company revised its profit for the quarter ended June 2015 to Rs 5,231 crore from Rs 2,768.91 crore after change in accounting standards.
Consolidated revenue during the quarter grew by 9 percent year-on-year to Rs 67,056 crore, driven by strong sales volume growth in all regions for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and continued growth in M&HCV and LCV segments.
The Tata Group company in Q1 sold 1.34 lakh units of Jaguar Land Rover, higher by 17 percent YoY due to strong response to Jaguar F-PACE and XE while domestic sales increased 7 percent led by 10 percent growth in commercial vehicle business.
Profit was estimated at Rs 2,856 crore on revenue of Rs 64,400 crore for the quarter, according to average of estimates of analysts polled by CNBC-TV18.
Operating profit (EBITDA-earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) during the quarter slipped 30.8 percent to Rs 7,612.9 crore and margin fell 650 basis points to 11.4 percent compared to year-ago period.
Exceptional income during the quarter included further recoveries of 50 million pound (Rs 478 crore) pertaining to Tianjin Port incident which happened during the year ended March 2016, Tata Motors said, adding share of profit of joint ventures & associates stood at Rs 429 crore (against loss of Rs 70.82 crore YoY).
Consolidated tax expenses plunged 56.3 percent to Rs 720 crore while other income declined 22.5 percent to Rs 173.6 crore compared with corresponding period of last fiscal.
Consolidated earnings comprised of domestic business (commercial as well as passenger vehicles) and JLR. Standalone is only domestic business.

RBL Bank IPO fully subscribed
As of 11:00 AM (0530 GMT), the IPO, the first by an Indian bank since 2010, had received bids for 39.1 million shares, or 1.03 times the 37.9 million shares on offer. The sale closes on Tuesday.
The initial public offering of private sector lender RBL Bank was fully subscribed till noon on the second day of the issue today.
This is the first initial share sale by any private sector lender in a decade. The public issue received bids for 5.41 crore shares as against 3.79 crore on offer, generating a subscription of 1.43 times, as per the information available with the stock exchanges till 1230 hours.
The company, last week, raised Rs 364 crore by allotting over 1.61 crore shares to anchor investors at Rs 225 apiece.
The anchor investors include FIL Investments Mauritius Ltd, Government Pension Fund Global, Goldman Sachs India Fund, Auburn Ltd and HSBC Global Investment Funds - Indian Equity.
Price band for the IPO is Rs 224-225 per share. The offers would close tomorrow.
Under the initial public offer, RBL Bank would raise Rs 832.50 crore through fresh shares issue and up to Rs 380.46 crore from an offer for sale by existing shareholders.
The share sale, accounting for 10-11 per cent stake, would give the bank a valuation of over Rs 12,000 crore.
Yes Bank was the last private sector lender to hit the capital markets in 2005. Taking into account state-run banks as well, Punjab and Sind Bank last went public six years ago in 2010. Existing investors, including Beacon India Private Equity and GPE, would sell shares through the IPO.
Kotak Mahindra Capital, Axis Capital, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley are global merchant bankers for the deal, while HDFC Bank, ICICI Securities, IDFC Securities, IIFL and SBI Caps are the lead managers for the local market.

SBI says will gain $120 bn in assets from takeover of units
In a first move to consolidate India's struggling public sector banks, SBI's board on Thursday approved share swap ratio for the proposed takeover of five units that had been run at arms-length, as well as state-run Bharatiya Mahila Bank, a bank for women set up in 2013.
State Bank of India (SBI), the nation's biggest lender by assets, will gain USD120 billion in assets following its merger with associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank, the lender said in a statement on Saturday.
In a first move to consolidate India's struggling public sector banks, SBI's board on Thursday approved share swap ratio for the proposed takeover of five units that had been run at arms-length, as well as state-run Bharatiya Mahila Bank, a bank for women set up in 2013.
Policymakers want to recapitalise and consolidate India's state-run banks so that they can extend fresh credit and help drive an investment-led recovery in Asia's third-largest economy that is currently getting a boost from state and private consumption.
India's 27 public sector banks account for 70 percent of its banking sector assets, as well as the lion's share of the country's USD120 billion in troubled loans.
SBI said the merger would expand its assets by 36 percent to about USD447 billion.
