Equity benchmarks indices hit a fresh record high again on Tuesday, with the Sensex trading above 34,400 level. Today's gains led by Coal India, Wipro and ONGC.
Indices opened the session on a positive note owing to firm global cues. The market slipped into the negative zone after hitting a record high and ahead of earnings season.
At 10:11 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 34,393, up 42 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,620, down 3 points.
Shares of NMDC fell nearly 4% today as the government will sell up to 3% stake in the company through an offer for sale, at a 5% discount to the previous closing price.
Shares of Aarti Drugs surged 7% to hit a near three-year high after the company set the price of its share buyback at a 19.5% premium to the stock's closing price on Monday.
Shares of Coal India hit a six-month high following a hike in non-coking coal prices as the increase is seen offsetting the impact of higher wages.
The BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices were down 0.03% and 0.11%, respectively.
Volatility index India VIX gained 2.25%.
Coal India (+7.4%), Tata Motors (+1.5%), Tata Steel (+0.94%), GAIL (+0.72%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (+0.49%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
HPCL (-1.4%), Zee (-1.3%), Eicher (-1.2%), Hindalco (-0.9%) and Tech Mahindra (-0.80%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 1,999 stocks traded on the NSE, 640 advanced, 968 declined and 391 remained unchanged today.
A total of 97 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while four stock touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
